Pierre Gerbais Grains de Celles Rosé
I popped open this ultra delicious Rosé Champagne for this past New Year’s celebration, and although I made every effort to practice my patience and hold off from opening, I couldn’t resist. Thankfully, I made the right choice as this Champagne was absolutely divine, and I look forward to the next batch coming into stores as I’ll be sure to purchase another bottle or two.
This rosé is a blend of Pinot Noir (50%), Chardonnay (25%) and Pinot Blanc (25%).
The grapes are sourced from the best parcels in Celles sur Ource in Côtes des Bars, where the vines are about 30 years on Kimmeridian soil. They practice organic viticulture with all wines being fermented with natural yeasts. This particular Champagne rested on its lees four 30 months. Non-filtered and having 3g/l of residual sugar.
Notes of beautiful brioche, candied strawberries, and raspberries with and bits of warm spice and minerality. The palate is rich, full of intense red fruit and pie crust with a high acidity, making the wine very crisp and bright. The bubbles are long lasting creating a gentle softness on the palate, with a very long finish leading to tart cranberries, a bit of cloves and saltiness. Extremely elegant, well balanced and structured.
